I'd also recommend that you create a PSN account for the second couch player ahead of time. You can't start playing with a second person until you reach a point in the tutorial where the guy tells you that it's much more fun with a friend or three. Here are some things that will help people in the future that I wish I had known. It provides exactly what you want from playing games next to a friend. There are lots of times when one player saves the day by making it past a a hard part with 1 life left resulting in jubilant high fives and shouts of joy. We both got way more into it than I was expecting which was great. I highly recommend it as a couch co-op game. I spent the weekend looking after my niece who is recovering from surgery and we had an absolute blast playing LittleBigPlanet 3 together.
